Dr. Thomas M. Haskins was born on August 19, 1859, in Wetzel County, Virginia (now West Virginia), approximately 57 miles from Wheeling. He pursued his education in local schools before attending the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Baltimore, Maryland, graduating in 1886. He furthered his medical training at Bellevue Hospital and Medical College in New York City and took additional courses at the Post-Graduate School of New York. Dr. Haskins moved to Wheeling and established Haskins' Hospital in 1886, located at 3327 Eoff Street. The hospital, which expanded with an annex in 1900, was known for its modern facilities, including Turkish baths and a free ambulance service. Dr. Haskins was a pioneer in medical care in Wheeling, offering specialized treatments for diseases of the nose and throat. He was also a dedicated educator, founding a training school for nurses at his hospital. Dr. Haskins married Louise M. Schenk on September 10, 1894, at St. James German Lutheran Church in Wheeling. He passed away on November 8, 1938, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was buried at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
