Today in Wheeling History: September 18--"Biggie 96.5" WBGI-FM and "Jack FM" WYJK-FM, both serving the Wheeling area, swapped call signs, with 96.5 FM in Moundsville becoming WYJK-FM "Jack FM", a predecessor to the current WRQY "Rage 96.5" (2012).

WRQY is a radio station broadcasting at 96.5 MHz FM in Moundsville, West Virginia, serving the Wheeling, West Virginia and St. Clairsville, Ohio areas. It's currently owned by Cody Barack through Ohio Midland Newsgroup, LLC.

The station has undergone several format changes over the years. It began as WRKP in 1990 and has had multiple call sign changes. In December 2011, it flipped to a country format as "Biggie 96.5". On September 18, 2012, the station swapped call signs with WYJK-FM, changing from WBGI-FM to WYJK-FM. This followed a format swap on September 10, where the country format moved to 100.5 FM in Bellaire, Ohio, and the "Jack FM" variety hits format moved to 96.5 FM.

In September 2014, WRQY adopted a hybrid sports/active rock format, branded as "Rocky 96.5". This format featured ESPN Radio's Mike & Mike In The Morning followed by Westwood One's Rock 2.0 programming.

In March 2018, WRQY shifted to classic rock, still using the "Rocky 96.5" branding. This format was part of Westwood One's "Classic Rock X" network, focusing on harder-leaning titles from the 1980s and 1990s.

The most recent change came on November 15, 2021, when WRQY returned to an active rock format, rebranding as "Rage 96.5". The station is now affiliated with Fox News Radio.

Throughout its history, WRQY has competed with other local stations like Clear Channel's WOVK and WEGW, strategically changing formats to capture different segments of the local radio audience.
