John Domenick was born on January 14, 1946, in Wheeling, West Virginia. He graduated from Smithfield High School in Ohio. Domenick pursued higher education at the University of Cincinnati. After completing his studies, he returned to Wheeling and began his career as a weatherman with the local CBS station, WTRF-TV. Domenick's engaging personality and accurate weather forecasts made him a beloved figure in the community.
In 2002, Domenick decided to enter politics and sought the Democratic nomination for state representative in Ohio's 95th district. His high name recognition and strong community ties helped him win the election against incumbent Eileen Krupinski. Domenick was sworn into office on January 3, 2003, and served four consecutive terms until 2010, when he was ineligible to run due to term limits. During his tenure, he was named chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee for the 128th Ohio General Assembly.
After leaving the Ohio House of Representatives, Domenick returned to Smithfield, Ohio, where he continued to be an active member of the community. He and his wife, Martha, have one child, John III.
