WRQY (96.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Moundsville, West Virginia, serving the Wheeling, WV and St. Clairsville, OH markets. Originally launched in 1990 as WRKP, the station has undergone multiple format and call sign changes over the decades. It became WLVW in 2007, then WBGI-FM, followed by WYJK-FM, before settling on WRQY in 2014. That year, the station adopted a hybrid sports/active rock format under the branding “Rocky 96.5.”
In 2018, WRQY shifted to classic rock, using Westwood One’s “Classic Rock X” network. However, on November 15, 2021, the station pivoted back to active rock, rebranding as “Rage 96.5.” The transition was teased on social media, with the word “classic” crossed out and the phrase “Monday at 3” hinting at the change. The final song played before the flip was “Mysterious Ways” by U2, followed by “Darkness Settles In” by Five Finger Death Punch to launch the new format.
WRQY is owned by Cody Barack through Ohio Midland Newsgroup, LLC, and affiliated with Fox News Radio. It broadcasts at 2,500 watts from a transmitter with a height of 138 meters, reaching listeners across the Ohio Valley.
