Michael Alexander Grove, born on December 18, 1996, in Wheeling, West Virginia, is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Grove grew up in Wheeling and attended Wheeling Park High School, where he excelled in hockey, baseball, and football. He then played college baseball at West Virginia University (WVU), where he had a standout sophomore season in 2017 with a 2.87 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 47 innings before an arm injury ended his season. Grove underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2017. Despite the injury, he was drafted by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2018 MLB draft. Grove made his professional debut in 2019 with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Grove trained at the Dodgers' alternate site. He played for the Tulsa Drillers in 2021 and was added to the Dodgers' 40-man roster in November 2021. Grove made his MLB debut on May 15, 2022, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He recorded his first major league win on September 25, 2022, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Grove has continued to develop as a pitcher, contributing to the Dodgers' success and achieving his dream of playing in the major leagues.
