St. Paul's Evangelical Protestant Church, located in South Wheeling, West Virginia, has a rich history dating back to its organization on September 6, 1867. The church was established to serve the German immigrant population in the area. Initially, worship services were held in the old Methodist Church at the corner of 37th and Jacob Streets and later at the Third Presbyterian Church while the first church building was being constructed. The original structure, located at the corner of 38th and Wood Streets, was dedicated on October 31, 1868. The church operated independently, securing its ministers from Germany and conducting services in German until 1897. In 1875, a group of families left to form St. Stephen's Church. As the congregation grew, a new church building was erected on the same site, with the cornerstone laid on April 4, 1925, and the building dedicated on December 13, 1925. St. Paul's joined the Evangelical Synod of North America in 1910 and later became part of the United Church of Christ in 1957. The church has been a vital part of the Wheeling community, adapting to changing times while maintaining its historical roots.
