Harold R. Markell was a Canadian-born businessman who made his mark in Wheeling, West Virginia. Born in 1887 in Cornwall, Ontario, he began his career in banking before transitioning to the automobile industry. In 1913, Markell opened the Packard Automobile Agency in Wheeling and later founded the Pleasant Valley Auto Co. He was an active member of various organizations, including Vance Memorial United Presbyterian Church, Nelson Lodge No. 30, A.F. & A.M., and the Wheeling Country Club. Markell married Elizabeth Stamm in 1917, and together they had two daughters, Betty Jane and Virginia. He passed away on July 7, 1971, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy in the Wheeling business community.
