Karla Boos is a prominent figure in the world of theater, known for her innovative and experimental approach. Born to Paul V. and Anna Boos, Karla moved to Wheeling, West Virginia, at the age of 10. She graduated from Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy and later attended Bethany College, the University of Pittsburgh, and the California Institute of the Arts. Her passion for theater was nurtured at Oglebay Institute’s Towngate Theatre under the mentorship of Hal O’Leary. In 1990, Karla founded Quantum Theatre in Pittsburgh, envisioning it as a laboratory for new and unique theatrical experiences. Quantum Theatre is known for staging productions in unconventional spaces, such as the Union Trust Building, a Gothic church, and even an empty swimming pool. Karla has directed, performed, and adapted literature for Quantum’s stages, collaborating with artists from around the world. She has also served as a guest curator for the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts. Karla's contributions to the arts have earned her numerous accolades, including the Carol R. Brown Award for Established Artist. Her work continues to inspire and push the boundaries of traditional theater.
