Wilbur Haverfield Cramblet was born on July 10, 1892, in Harrison County, Ohio. He pursued higher education at Yale University, where he earned his Ph.D. Cramblet's career in academia and athletics began as the head football coach at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, from 1915 to 1916. In 1918, he moved to Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia, where he served as the head football coach and later as the dean of students from 1918 to 1920. His most notable role was as the president of Bethany College, a position he held from 1934 to 1952. During his tenure, he significantly contributed to the growth and development of the college.
Cramblet's connection to Wheeling, West Virginia, was solidified later in his life. He passed away on November 9, 1975, at a hospital in Wheeling. His contributions to education and athletics left a lasting impact on the institutions he served. Cramblet was buried in the Campbell Cemetery, Bethany, Brooke County, West Virginia.
