Robert William Schramm was born on November 13, 1934, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to parents George W. and Gladys Palmer Schramm. He attended Linsly Military Institute, Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), and graduated from West Liberty State College in 1958. Schramm received a graduate degree in nuclear physics from West Virginia University in 1959. He joined the faculty at West Liberty State College in 1959, serving as head of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Industrial Technology until he retired as associate professor after 39 years. At West Liberty, he co-founded the Regional Science Fair, created the college archives and museum, served as archivist for over 30 years, and originated the Alumni Wall of Honor. After retiring, Schramm worked at The Linsly School as co-founder of their Archives and Museum. He authored several history books including West Liberty State College (2001), The Linsly School (2003), Moundsville (2004), and Wheeling Island (2006). In 1990, he and his wife Jeanne designed a women's history museum housed in a refurbished school bus, which became the first exhibit at the National Women's History Museum in Alexandria, VA. Schramm died on June 21, 2014, at his home in West Liberty, WV.
