Phyllis A. Beneke (born February 3, 1929, in Wheeling, West Virginia) was an educator dedicated to the youth of Ohio County. She served as a teacher, dean of girls, assistant principal, and principal at several Wheeling schools, including Triadelphia High, Warwood High, Wheeling High, and Wheeling Park High. Beneke was named Outstanding Principal in West Virginia in 1984 and Outstanding Woman of the Ohio Valley in 1986. She generously donated to educational organizations and, upon her death in September 1988, left her $2.4 million estate to establish a scholarship fund for Wheeling Park students. The first scholarships were awarded in 1990, including a $25,000 four-year scholarship. Her philanthropy and devotion to education led to her induction into the Wheeling Hall of Fame in 1990. Beneke died in September 1988, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling.
