Dr. S. Arthur “Art” Rybeck Jr., born on Wheeling Island on August 2, 1923, and the son of Samuel and Rosalind Rybeck, was posthumously inducted into the Wheeling Hall of Fame in 2015 for his philanthropic contributions. Growing up on a farm on Cherry Hill Road, he developed a love for the outdoors, camping on Colonel Oglebay’s Waddington Farm. After serving in the Army Signal Corps during World War II, studying electronics at Philadelphia’s Drexel Institute, and earning his DDS degree in 1950, Dr. Rybeck opened a dental practice in Wheeling. Passionate about community health, he co-invented dental equipment, patented innovations, and introduced flossing and preventative care in Chinese dental schools during a visit to China. Dr. Rybeck's philanthropy extended to founding the Viewpoint Dental Clinic on his New Dawn Farm in Triadelphia, providing free dental services until his passing in 2008. Involved in various organizations, he left a lasting legacy as a dedicated dentist, philanthropist, and community advocate.
