Robert E. "Bob" Biery was born in 1901 in Greggsville, West Virginia. He had a lifelong passion for golf, starting as a young caddy at age 5 at Wheeling Country Club. He went on to become the first West Virginia native to be a golf pro. He worked at several country clubs and was instrumental in designing and building the courses at Wheeling Park, Oglebay Park's Crispin Center, and other local clubs. He also founded the Oglebay Caddy Camp. In addition to golf, Biery enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He passed away in 1991 at age 89 or 90 and is buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling.
