Today in Ohio Valley History: August 15--Governor Lee from Virginia granted exemption to the counties of Ohio, Harrison, Monongalia, Greenbrier, and Kanawha from providing troops to quell the Whiskey Rebellion in western Pennsylvania. The reason for the exemption was that these counties were dealing with frequent Indian attacks and could not afford to spare any troops for the cause (1794). (https://rb.gy/fhu1m)
