The annual convention of the American Flint Glass Workers began in Wheeling on July 8, 1902. Most of the delegates had already arrived and registered at the McLure House Hotel. President and Wheeling native Charles E. Voitle expected the convention to be successful, with a large turnout and favorable trade conditions for the glassworkers. One important matter discussed was the proposed amalgamation of the Flints and the bottle blowers national organization. The convention started with a parade followed by a welcome address from Wheeling Mayor Andrew T. Sweeney. The delegates then convened and appointed committees before getting down to business. The convention lasted approximately two weeks and featured social events, which included an outing to Wheeling Park. Delegates from various states and Canada were in attendance.
