Richard Peter Mehen was an American basketball player born on May 20, 1922, in Wheeling, West Virginia. He played as a power forward and center during his career. Mehen attended Tennessee College from 1941 to 1943 and then again from 1946 to 1947. He was not drafted into the BAA in 1947 but went on to play for several teams in the league, including the Toledo Jeeps, Waterloo Hawks, Baltimore Bullets, Boston Celtics, Fort Wayne Pistons, and Milwaukee Hawks. Mehen achieved various accolades during his career, such as being part of the All-NBL First Team in 1949, earning Second-team All-American honors in 1942, and being selected for the First-team All-SEC twice in 1942 and 1943. He passed away on December 14, 1986, at the age of 64 in North Olmsted, Ohio. Throughout his playing years, Mehen scored 2,067 points, grabbed 505 rebounds, and made 480 assists.
