Washington School in Wheeling was originally built in 1849 as a four-room brick building and replaced in 1868 with a larger three-story brick building. Another three-story red brick building was constructed in 1887 and served students for many years. It had 17 rooms plus assembly and office space. The school underwent many interior renovations over the years for safety and modernization. Washington School was a landmark in North Wheeling until it closed in 1975.
