U.S. Senator Jennings Randolph was the keynote speaker at the dedication ceremonies for the Wheeling Park High School, according to a December 13, 1976 article in "The Intelligencer". The $11 million plus consolidated high school campus opened in September of that year. Governor Arch A. Moore was originally scheduled to give the dedication address to the crowd of around 500 residents and students, but could not attend due to inclement weather. Instead, Senator Randolph gave remarks. As part of the event, keys to the new building were symbolically handed over to the Ohio County Board of Education members by Ron Firestone, an architect with the firm Van Buren and Firestone which designed the facility.
