Charles F. Schultze, born on April 3, 1865, in the Eighth Ward of Wheeling, West Virginia, to John W. Schultze and Anna Coppler Schultze, was a prominent figure in the city. He worked at the Wheeling Post Office for 43 years, serving as superintendent of mails and acting postmaster before retiring in 1933. Schultze was actively involved in civic affairs, serving on the Wheeling Independent School Board (1900-1906), the Richland District School Board, and was elected as the 51st mayor of Wheeling in 1935 after being elected to the City Council.
A prominent Masonic leader, Schultze held various positions in Masonic organizations and was a member of the Warwood Presbyterian Church, the Warwood Boosters' Club, and served as president of the Bank of Warwood and the Union Federal Savings and Loan Association of Wheeling. He died suddenly on May 8, 1938, at his home in Warwood, 712 Warwood Avenue, due to a heart attack. Funeral services were held on May 11, 1938, at the home of his father-in-law, George S. Dorsch, at 1100 Warwood Avenue, with Masonic dignitaries and city officials serving as honorary pallbearers, and he was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, survived by his wife, Emma Dorsch Schultze, two children, two sisters, and one brother.
